The Rudolph Heino College Scholarship Program

Who Is Eligible To Apply?

You may apply for this scholarship if you, the student, are a member of Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union with an open account in his/her name, as primary member, at the time of application. If you are not a member of this Credit Union, you must open an account and become a member in order to qualify for the scholarship award. Your accounts must be in good standing with this Credit Union (i.e. no delinquent or charged-off loans and a positive balance in all accounts).

    Other eligibility requirements are as follows:
  • Graduating high school senior in the class of 2017
  • Proof of acceptance to an accredited two- or four-year college or university
  • Resume outlining both academic achievements and employment history
  • A 250 to 500 word essay explaining how you exemplify the "people helping people" philosophy
  • A 2016-2017 high school transcript
  • Application received by Friday, March 17, 2017.

Family members of MSGCU employees and Official Family are not eligible for the scholarship award.

How Are Recipients Selected?

    Recipients of the Rudolph Heino Scholarship are selected based on a number of criteria, including:
  • Academic achievement
  • Community involvement
  • School involvement
  • Significant contributions to society or family
  • Work history
  • Other outstanding achievements

Award Description

There are five (5) MSGCU Rudolph Heino Scholarships available, each worth $2,500. They are one-time, non-renewable scholarships. Distribution will be made during the month of July, payable directly to your college's financial aid office. Scholarship funds may be applied to any component of the school's comprehensive expenses (including tuition, books, lab fees, or on-campus room and board).

Award Winners

Award winners will be notified April 20, 2017. (Non-winners will also be notified on April 20, 2017.)


The Larry Swantek Educational Studies Scholarship Program

Who Is Eligible To Apply?

You may apply for this scholarship if you, the student, are a member of Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union with an open account at the time of application. If you are not a member of this Credit Union, you must open an account to become a member in order to qualify. Your accounts must be in good standing with this Credit Union (i.e. no delinquent or charged-off loans and a positive balance in all accounts).

    Other eligibility requirements are as follows:
  • Graduating high school senior in the class of 2017 or current college student enrolled in a four-year institution's School of Education
  • Official college transcript as proof of acceptance into School of Education or enrollment in major classes at accredited two- or four-year institution
  • Resume outlining both academic achievements and employment history
  • A 500-1,000 word essay on most important lesson in your classroom
  • 2016-17 high school transcript (for high school senior applicants only)
  • Proof of acceptance into a two- or four-year university.
  • Application received by Friday, March 17, 2017.

Family members of MSGCU employees and Official Family are not eligible for the scholarship award.

Educational Solutions Scholarship Program

Who Is Eligible To Apply?

You may apply for this scholarship if you, the student, are a member of Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union with an open account in his/her name, as primary member, at the time of application. If you are not a member of this Credit Union, you may still apply for the scholarship, but must join MSGCU if you are selected as a winner. This program is open to high school seniors who are attending high school or a technical campus in the communities MSGCU serves.

    Other eligibility requirements are as follows:
  • Graduating high school senior in the class of 2017
  • Proof of acceptance to an accredited two- or four-year college or university
  • Resume outlining both academic achievements and employment history
  • A 250 to 500 word essay explaining how education has helped you and how gaining a scholarship will help you accomplish your goals
  • A 2016-17 high school transcript
  • Application received by Friday, March 17, 2017.

Family members of MSGCU employees and Official Family are not eligible for the scholarship award.

How Are Recipients Selected?

    Recipients of the Educational Solutions Scholarship are selected based on a number of criteria, including:
  • Academic achievement
  • Community involvement
  • School involvement
  • Significant contributions to society or family
  • Letter of recommendation from teacher
  • Other outstanding achievements

Letter of Recommendation

An evaluation form and a letter of recommendation from a teacher is required. The form and letter MUST be mailed to scholarships@msgcu.org from the teacher's school email address no later than March 17, 2017 or the letter of recommendation will not be accepted. Your application will be formally accepted once the form AND letter of recommendation is received.

Educator Advantage Scholarship Program

Who Is Eligible To Apply?

You may apply for this scholarship if you, the student, are a member of Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union with an open account in his/her name, as primary member, at the time of application. If you are not a member of this Credit Union, you may still apply for the scholarship, but must join MSGCU if you are selected as a winner. Other eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • Must be a certified educator in K-12
  • Applicant must be currently enrolled or accepted into a college, university or other learning program
  • Official college transcript as proof of enrollment into a college, university or other learning program
  • Resume outlining both academic achievements and employment history
  • A 250-500 word essay on most important lesson in your classroom
  • A letter of recommendation from an administrator (principal, superintendent, etc.)
  • Application received by Friday, March 17, 2017.

Family members of MSGCU employees and Official Family are not eligible for the scholarship award.
